In college, I always said that if I couldn’t make it in physics, I’d start a bakery. Not to downplay the work involved in food service, but because I loved being in the kitchen and sharing my treats with others.
There’s something special about watching someone take a bite out of your food and watching their eyes light up. When a bake works, the first place you see it is in someone’s eyes.
This website is clearly not a cafe, bakery, or restaurant. It’s also not the handmade kitchen booth that I considered starting pre-pandemic. But it is an amalgamation of everything I’ve learned in life up to this point.
Mid-thirties. Too old to be young and too young to be old. Just here. Just existing. Enough knowledge to know a lot, and not enough knowledge to know everything. (A truly impossible feat. Any vampires/immortals out there, what is something you’re still learning?)
Enough knowledge to be dangerous? (waggles eyebrows over spy music) As I’ve been predominately compared to a cinnamon roll for most of my life, danger is definitively not my middle name. So, probably not. (wah wah wahhhh)
Enough knowledge to be mildly entertaining and educational? For sure.
Enough of a researcher that I will pull threads and write over 20 pages for my first case study before the real work starts? Absolutely.
Why “Mystic Flame?”
Like many a millennial girl, I grew up finding power in stories of magic. It empowered me. Despite my leanings towards science, my love of the fantastical was never far away. Not that many of the fantasy novels in my sphere of knowledge featured a strong female lead during that time.
Today, we’re living through a wave of fantasy. Some say it’s solely escapism. To that I say, have you actually read a fantasy novel?
Sure, you’ve got your chosen ones, your the power was inside you all along, your friendship is magic, etc. But when you’re paying attention to these stories, you’re reading another person’s truth. And in that truth, you may find the strength to face your day.
For me, the Mystic Flame is an unending fire, stoked by your resolve. It may decay or flare, but it never goes out.
The Mystic Flame represents the energy to care for yourself, your family, and your community. It cooks your food and heats your home.
May its glow warm your hearth and call you home. <3
